Kalahari Resorts Launches Interactive Stingray Exhibit
Safari Outdoor Adventure Park debuts unique and interactive wildlife attraction for visitors of all ages
SANDUSKY, OHIO (Aug 1, 2012) – Exotic wildlife from around the globe are being seen like never before at Kalahari Resort’s Safari Outdoor Adventure Park. Since its opening in May 2009, the park has provided guests with the opportunity to interact with over 400 exotic animals. Now visitors have the chance to experience a new aquatic realm of the animal kingdom with the debut of a stingray exhibit. The exhibit features cownose rays, gentle stingrays related to the shark family and found in the Atlantic Ocean along the west coast of Africa.
The new, interactive feature premiered on Wednesday, July 25 with a 6,000 gallon saltwater tank, the new home to over a dozen de-barbed cownose rays, flown in from Florida to appear in the exhibit. Cownose rays get their name from their unique foreheads, which resemble the nose of a cow. While recognized for their stingers, the cownose rays are docile, playful ocean creatures known for being strong swimmers and migrating long distances. Visitors have the opportunity to share the waters with the de-barbed stingrays, while professionally trained Safari Outdoor Adventure Park staff members monitor and maintain the exhibit and visitor safety.
“We’re thrilled to usher in this new exhibit to Kalahari Resorts,” said Kalahari spokesperson, Brian Shanle. “It is truly a captivating experience – and a rare opportunity to connect with ocean life. Stingrays are such remarkable creatures, especially up close.”
Admission for all ages is $3.00, in addition to a supplemental charge of $10.00 for those visitors interested in feeding the stingrays, $15.00 for photos with the stingrays and $75.00 for the full stingray interactive experience. The exhibit is open seven days a week, 9am-8pm, prior to Labor Day. After Labor Day, the hours change to Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm and Saturday through Sunday, 9am–5pm. The attraction will run through September 30, weather permitting.
In addition to the new stingray exhibit, the Safari Outdoor Adventure Park at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky, Ohio features a thrilling zip line tour, ropes course, climbing walls and much more.
