9/11 Shadow Cast on Stow's New Memorial Garden (Photos)
A symbolic shadow was drawn on City Hall's sidewalk Sept. 11, 2012 as city employees had a moment of silence for the attacks on the World Trade Center 11 years ago.
About 30 city employees joined Mayor Sara Drew for a moment of silence at 8:45 a.m. on the 11th anniversary of the attacks on American soil.
A piece of the World Trade Center steel I-beam is featured in the city's donation-driven 9/11 Memorial Garden. Mayor Sara Drew said more than $20,000 has been collected from private and business donations to build and maintain the memorial.
Stow City Council is expected to approve giving $500 from its contingency fund to the garden.
Law Director Brian Reali, who is currently serving overseas in Afghanistan with the Ohio National Guard, had a request for a piece of memorabilia approved by the New Jersey and New York Port Authority last August.
"Like so many other Americans, I truly feel a special connection to the events of Sept. 11, 2001," Reali previously said. "Personally, I have been deployed overseas [three times] since the attacks. While deployed, I always marked my equipment with a small '9/11' so as to always remember why we were there."
