Best Staycation Destinations: This Week's Readers' Choice

Where in town do you go to have some fun on your days off?

For many of us, going on vacation doesn't necessarily mean taking a trip.

Going on vacation can simply mean chillin' at home here in Stow -- going out to eat, doing some fun things in town and maybe getting a few household chores done.

We're so glad someone invented a name for this kind of non-travelin' vacation: The Staycation.

This week's Readers' Choice focuses on the Best Staycation Destinations in Stow.

Beginning today -- Monday, May 7 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to go while on a staycation.

Where to go on a staycation? A local putt-putt course ... the historical society ... a bowling alley ... the spa ... the video arcade. These are places where you can relax and have a little fun.

Give us your recommendation in the comments section below. With your help, we'll put together a list of nominees. Then look for our poll on Thursday, May 10 and vote! We'll select a winner at 5 p.m. Friday, May 11 and announce it in a story on Saturday, May 12.

In judging, we'll consider comments, poll votes and reviews in our complete directory of local businesses. Be sure to check out our contest rules in the PDF at right.

A great place for a staycation would be the walking paths in the gorge. There are a ton of paths with caves to explore. Ohio also has a tremendous amount of trails to follow like Hocking Hills, Nelson Ledges, etc. to just name a few.

Geoffrey, I absolutely agree. It's one of the coolest things to do in Ohio, in my opinion. But, we're looking for suggestions right here in Stow for this poll.

Camping at Silver Springs is always fun. You can hike around there or play on the playground (for the young AND young at heart!). Of course, there is fishing for those so inclined. These cool spring evenings are perfect for a campfire with S'mores and silly songs!

Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library has so many programs and activities it can be a destination itself and certainly has the information needed to do many things.

My faves: our library (especially the bubble lady program in the summer, and the nights the community jazz band plays), Soar playground &the the fields around it, and bowling at Stow-Kent lanes.

I have never been, but I'm considering going zip lining at Hocking Hills Adventure Park. FYI, it's Ohio Tourism Week on Groupon through May 13, so there are some great ideas and savings there! http://www.groupon.com/promos/ohio-tourism-week

I second the nomination for camping at Silver Springs! We've been going since 2000 and haven't missed a summer since then. My kids have practically grown up there!
