Community Meetings Planned to Talk about Cuts Made If Levy Fails
To better understand what cuts could be made and how that would effect the district if the levy fails, the Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education has weekly community engagement meetings scheduled at Crooked River Grill.
Want to talk more about what could happen if the November school levy fails?
The Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education will have weekly meetings at the Crooked River Grill, 403 N. Main St. in Munroe Falls, to discuss the cuts coming if the 6.57-mill 10 year operating levy does not pass.
These community engagement meetings will begin Sept. 20 from 9 to 10 a.m. and will run every Tuesday through Nov. 1.
Community members are invited to attend and the discussion will only be focused on answering questions related to the impact of not passing the upcoming school levy.

Can at least one meeting be held during the evening so that members of the community who are working during those morning hours are able to attend? I understand that not all needs can bet met, but a large portion of the community is counted out with meetings only at 9am.

Sarah -- Meetings on alternate dates and times are being scheduled now. The Issue 20 Levy committee knows the importance of meeting with as many people as possible. It is vital that all voters understand the impact of a levy not passing. The alternate meeting dates should be announced later next week and meetings will be scheduled thorough out the days leading up to the election on November 8th. The Issue 20 Levy Committee sponsored media programs and activities are 100% funded from donations. All donations are welcome!

I'd be very interested to know what happens to the monies if the November Levy Passes. They don't want to discuss on that at all. They seem to only focus on the negatives if it doesn't pass. Give the community some more credit here. Let us know what the boards' plans are for handling the new money when the levy passes

Why is it that everything with the school board is a secret? Give us more credit and share with us what will happen to the monies. You are asking for more money yet they are introducing programs that the schools may not need and are very costly. Everyone keeps talking that the IB program is just a drop in the bucket. Yet the school board will not even discuss the program or the cost with the public.

The administration has stated the cost of the IB program at multiple meetings. Not sure why this keeps coming up. If you attend the meetings you would know. As for everything being secret, the information is out there in various formats. 5year plan, budget, issues that are discussed at meetings. If you attend the meetings or maybe ask the admin for the information then maybe you would get the information. I can't see how making these postings about accusations gets you your information.

why are they having it during the day when everybody works !!!!!. I know its because they don`t want people to show up!!!.so they can just do business as usual in top secret. who flipping the bill for this.can they get any smaller place. how about cutting there pay !!.

For the same reason they had the levy on the ballot in August - they hope no one shows up!! Notice the topic will be held to the gloom and doom of what will happen if the November levy fails. I actually think a lot of good can come from the failed levy. The real fat will be cut and the schools can run more efficiently, and maybe we can finally get some transparency on where $55 MILLION is going.
P.S. Is the Crooked River Grill going to let them meet there for free.

"Bill" Crooked River Grill continues to be open to group community meetings. The owners do not charge for the meeting space and coffee, tea and water are provided throught the generious donation of a local person. The Issue 20 Levy committee is in the process of locating and scheduling alternate meeting sights on dates and times convenient to more people. The additional locations should be announced towards the latter part of next week. All are welcome to attend and participate in these meetings

by the way is this going to cost the taxpayers $ 600.00 + per board members meals like the teachers in the ib program when they went to diner on there learning trips

Hahaha...... great minds think alike. Are they going to have breakfast before or after on the taxpayer's dime? You mean to say there wasn't a room in one of the schools or the library to meet in? The had to pick a restaurant!

James, you are completely correct. The current BOE and administration, has made this mess and are now up in arms. Ms. Bulgrin contract is rediculous. And after it was done, she has the guts to come and ask the taxpayers for more money. Just does not set well with me.

I do also want to say, that we need to contact our representives in Columbus, about the funding to our schools. Part of the problem is the state funding. I am correcting that the BOE and administration made the mess. In all fairness, they are not completely to blame, because of state funding. But I do feel that some of BOE and administration have made some bad decisions concerning our finances.

@m barnes, misty has agreat point!!!! why are they not using schools or library? Why are they making it in am hours when most people are working? (most parents are working trying to support their families). Is it so you can discuss what cuts that can be made to get at the parents for not voting for the levy? Or how you can come up with a way to get the children to talk their parents into passing the levy by taking away things that matter to them instead of making other cuts that does not effect the children. We are being bullied into passing the levy, when the school has a no tolerance for bulling but guess it is okay for the superintendent to bully the parents though.

When politicians and public servants operate in secrecy and lack transparency in their activities, one can only believe they are hiding something. I will be voting against the Levy since it is time for all these government organizations to live within their means. Without fiscal responsibility and setting of priorities, pet projects and corruption will surely follow. Education of our children does not require Ipads, it simply requires good teachers.

Another interesting comment. When the administration and BOE setup public meetings to discuss the levy its secret? WOW That's not my definition of secret.
As stated above they are scheduling some evening meetings to include people that can't make it in the morning. Secret? I don't think so.

On behalf of the SMF School Levy Committee I would like to invite all interested parties to attend tonight’s Issue 20 Informational meeting -- 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Oregon Trail Sports Center across from Woodland Elementary School on Graham Rd. Administration and school board members will be available to provide information regarding the need for additional funding through voter support for Issue 20 on November 8th.
