Jim Tressel, who has his masters in education from the University of Akron, is now a Zips employee.
Thurday morning the University of Akron announced that the former The Ohio State University head football coach is the vice president of strategic engagement with an annual salary of $200,000, according to an Ohio.com story.
"'Tressel played a key role in the search for a football coach that led to the hiring of Terry Bowden and since then has remained in touch with university officials,'" University President Luis Proenza said in an Ohio.com story.
Tressel was surrounded by controversy in May after being accused of violating NCAA rules because of a tattoo-parlor scandal, which led to his resignation as the Buckeye football coach.
With so many from Stow attending the University of Akron and its close proximity to Stow — we want to know how you feel about this move. Take our poll!
Stow Councilman Mike Rasor, who is an alumni of the university, said in his Ohio.com blog:
"Is Tressel qualified for the duties he’s taking on? Or is this just a desire for publicity — to have a celebrity around Buchtel Hall? (Who am I kidding? This is awesome.)"
Do you agree?

Whether you think the decision is good or bad, tell us why! I'm on the fence and would ike to hear from both sides, please.

Despite the way his OSU position ended Jim Tressel is one of the finest Collegiate Football minds in the game today. If his experience and knowledge can help UA's program within the boundaries imposed on him by the NCAA the University would be foolish NOT to engage his services. This is the opinion of a graduate of "that other University up north". Watch out Kent State.

Why should I listen to a Michigan fan? bleck. haha, kidding James. Thanks for the feedback. I really am on the fence about this ... I wish more people would weigh in, someone has to convince me if it's a good or bad move. There's no doubt what he did at Ohio State is pretty remarkable ...

I think this move is great - both for Jim and Akron U. He's quite an innovator in many respects and the university will surely benefit from his expertise. Quite frankly, he really got "screwed" at OSU by his own players and the Board. He wins this time! Go Zips!
