Expect to See More Officers in Stow This Weekend

With St. Patrick's Day Sunday, the Stow Police Department will have additional officers on Stow's streets in conjunction with the Summit County OVI Task Force.

The Stow Police Department announced on its Facebook page that more officers will be on Stow streets for the holiday weekend.

Because of St. Patrick's Day celebrations, the Summit County OVI Task Force and Stow Police Department will have additional men and women patrolling to enforce traffic laws and snag impaired drivers.

Drunk driving checkpoints will be set up in several Ohio counties this weekend, but details about those locations and times have not yet been released.

"For their own safety and the safety of all others on the road, anyone celebrating the St. Patrick’s Day holiday by drinking is encouraged to find a designated driver or call a cab for transportation," a statement released by the police department said.

For questions or information about Stow Police enforcement activities, call Sgt. Dan Drummond 330-689-5700.

St. Patrick's day is such an embarrassment for American culture.

I love a good party. But I want no part of this. I see no reason to celebrate getting black out drunk.

Mr. Troy,
on this we are in agreement. The Irish are, and St. Patrick himself would be, appalled at how his feast is observed.

The holiday is blatant exploitation of alcoholism. Never mind the danger that represents, bars and retailers across the country just want to cash in.

Personally not a big fan of alcohol. Sometimes it can be a lot of fun, other times I just feel like I'm poisoning myself.

This past week there were a total of 20 Ovi cases at stow municipal court. Some may of been related to narcotics, but let's be realistic. They were drunk! And we can't enforce our way around this problem.

So no chance I'll run into you two at Brubaker's?? Darn! LOL.... j/k. It really is a silly "holiday" but then so is Halloween, Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day, and probably the most historically appalling of them all Thanksgiving (ask American Indians how offensive that one is!). Still, I'm going to go out with a few friends and have a green beer and a couple of laughs (with a DD of course). Any excuse to do that is fine by me. :)

lol no you wont see me there. Alcohol and me don't mix well. Add in a bunch of other drunk people and it's a potential recipe for disaster.

Have fun though, and be safe out there!
