Fallen Stow Officer Jonathan Bastock's name will be added to the Police Memorial in Judiciary Square in Washington, D.C. this afternoon.
Police Chief Louis Dirker and his wife, the Bastock Family and a Stow officer are at our nation's capitol to honor Bastock's service and life today.
"President John F. Kennedy established May 15 as Police Memorial Day and the week in which it falls is Police Memorial Week a time in which all officers across the country cover their badges with black bands to honor those officers who have given their lives in the line of duty," said Dirker.
Each year a ceremony is held during Police Memorial Week in which the names of the officers who died in the previous year are added to the wall.
"This year the name of Officer Jonathan Bastock of the Stow Police Department who died in a duty-related death on February 5, 2011 will be added to the wall," said Dirker. "Officer Nick Dolezal will accompany the Bastock family and act as their official escort."
