Family Wants to Move to Stow, What Can You Tell Them About the Schools?

Check out this letter to the editor — a Michigan resident is thinking of coming to Stow, but wants to know more about the school system first!

A Stow Patch Facebook friend posted Tuesday morning that she and her family are looking to move to the Stow area, but first, she wants to know a little bit more about the Srow-Munrow Falls School District.

Her message is below:

"Hi! We are looking into moving to the Stow area (from Michigan) - I am wondering if there are any local families that can tell me about the local elementary schools? Is there anything else I should show about the schools? Do they have air conditioning? thanks in advance!"

— Christine Kannel Galperin

So, what do you think the Galperin family should know about the elementary schools (Echo Hills, Fishcreek, Highland, Indian Trail, Riverview and Woodland) in Stow?

I grew up here in Stow and I think the schools are amazing. My son goes to Indian Trail Elementary and the Principal is great and so are the teachers. They have a preschool in the school for kids with learning disabilities as well as regular kids. My son just graduated from the Preschool yesterday. They also have a lot of school activities through the school year and do a lot of PTA and fundraising things academically Stow has one of the highest ratings of excellence in the state of Ohio. So if you want to move here to Ohio then Stow is the place to come.

My son also just finished preschool yesterday (it's actually run by the county now, not the school district) and will be attending Indian Trail kindergarten in the fall. I attended Stow schools and think it's a fine school district. I had many teachers that had a positive impact on me during my time there and I've been impressed with the people I've met as we prepare my son for kindergarten. Not all elementary school buildings have air conditioning. Indian Trail does, but I know some of the older buildings, like Woodland, do not.

Also keep in mind there are plenty of private options available in the area as well as your kids get older if you prefer sending them to a private school, such as Walsh, CVCA and others.

We moved to Stow from another city close by FOR the schools. We have been here 9 years, through 3 schools with 3 kids, and we have NEVER been disappointed in our schools or the district. We still have one in Elementary (Fishcreek) and we wouldn't know what to do without our Fishcreek family. Plus, Stow is plain awesome.

We had 7 excellent years at Woodland Elementary. It is an older building with no air conditioning, but it doesn't usually get TOO hot except maybe the last few weeks of school. I believe Woodland is getting a long-overdue new playground next year. It has an active PTA and participates in the PTA Reflections program. Other favorite yearly activities include Picasso night (an art show with hands-on activities) and field day on the last day of school (with lots of outdoor games and activities for everyone). Our family highly recommends Woodland Elementary!
