Radar Signs Slow Traffic Near Schools

School zone radars were installed outside Echo Hills and Fishcreek Elementary schools over a year ago.

Traffic on Fishcreek Road near Fishcreek Elementary has slowed in the past few months due in large part to new radar signs installed as part of a Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The "speed feedback monitors” also were installed at Highland Elementary as part of the ODOT programs' goal to provide safe routes for children to walk or bicycle to school.

Stow-Munroe Falls Schools Superintendent Russ Jones said the signs are making a difference.

"We appreciate the efforts of Rob Kurtz and city officials for securing the grant for the Safe Routes to School fund," Jones said. "The signs serve as a reminder to drivers of their speed and that they are entering a school zone.

"Most people check their speed immediately when they see the signs, and if they are going too fast, they slow down," he said.

I wish they would do that on Kent Rd for the Indian Trail Elementary. I walk my son every day and have been almost hit twice now because people want to run the red light or hurry up and beat the light before it changes . I know it is a busy road but something needs to be done to make it a little bit safer for our kids over here that walk to school.

I agree Teri. So many times I've watched people speed up to get through the light as well as speed past the school buses that run on Kent Rd
