Need Free Mulch?

There's a new brush drop off site, be sure to go to the right place for the city's free mulch.

If you need mulch, Stow Parks and Recreation has it available for Stow residents. For free, no less.

The Got Mulch? program in Stow has been in operation for "many, many years," according to Community Information Coordinator Linda Nahrstedt and it's offered again now.

She said the city's contractor is at the new brush drop off site making mulch and it should be available Monday July 30, 2012, according to the city's Facebook page.

The new site is just west of the current Parks/Recreation and Urban Forestry building at 5070 Stow Rd.

The program is for Stow residents only, and residents can take as much mulch as they want with one caveat.

"It has to be loaded by hand," Nahrstedt previously said. "No equipment."

The city offers this program as a giveback to the community.

"The product is a result of the brush drop off program," Nahrstedt said. "Residents drop off their brush at our facility. Eventually, we have it ground up into a mulch-type product."

This may be a stupid question, but does using a shovel count as "by hand" or is a shovel "equipment?"

I'm guessing a shovel is OK, but I can ask!

I hope there are steps in place so what happened in Kent last year doesn't happen here...where greedy businesses come in and take it all and the residents are the ones who get screwed.

That's awful! And probably why they say no equipment.
