Logan Andrew West, who was indicted in August for charges of raping a child under the age of 10, has a trial by jury approaching in a few weeks in the Portage County Court of Common Pleas.
West, 18, of 4890 Wyoga Lake Rd., was indicted on two counts of rape Aug. 12 — both first-degree felonies — and if convicted, faces mandatory prison time (which could include a life sentence) and he must register as a sex offender in Ohio.
A trial by jury is expected to begin Oct. 23 in Portage County Judge John Enlow's courtroom.
West was taken into custody on Aug. 6 and he is accused of raping his girlfriend's 15-month-old infant in Ravenna Township, according to the Portage County Sheriff Department.
Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak said deputies responded to the 5600 block of South Prospect Street in Ravenna Township to assist Ravenna Township emergency medical workers on Aug. 4.
Ravenna Township EMS was responding to a call regarding an injury to a 15-month-old girl.
Due to the severity of the child's injuries, the infant was taken first to Robinson Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital, officers said.
During the following investigation police learned the trauma to the infant appeared to be a result of a sexual assault, the sheriff's department said. Several people, including West, were present in the home at the time of the incident, officers said.
West is the boyfriend of the child's mother, sheriff's officials said. West, who lives on Wyoga Lake Road, cooperated in the investigation, officials said.
West was ordered to take a veneral disease and HIV test. He is currently being held on a $2 million bond.

I hope this complete waste of human life pays dearly for what he did to that poor innocent baby, however, where is the mother's responsibility in all this? She clearly failed to protect her child by not being more selective as to whom she brought around her at best, if not neglectful in leaving her child unsupervised with someone who posed a threat or perhaps she participated in the assault as well. In any regard she should be brought up on child endangering charges as well! I can feel my blood pressure go up every time I read about this, as a mother of 4 I am very selective about who is around my children knowing my single most important job in this life is to protect and love my babies!

Patch wont follow up on this story. Surprise Surprise.
First he tried pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. Eventually changing his plea to guilty, and 1 charge of rape was dismissed.
Sentence ranged from 15 years to life. As far as I can tell the records are sealed though. No clue if he got the minimum or maximum
