The RoboteX AVATAR micro robot was unveiled to the public Thursday at the Akron Fraternal Order of Police lodge on Ley Drive. The robot -- purchased by the Akron Police Department for over $11,000 -- uses two infrared cameras to offer police and SWAT teams a 360-degree video feed of what it's seeing. The robot also features a two-way radio, which officers can use to communicate with people in potentially dangerous or hostile situations. It's highly mobile and can navigate several different types of terrain, including stairwells. The APD said it will lend the AVATAR to any Summit County safety force who needs it. RoboteX
