Stow-Munroe Falls Lion Club members are preparing for the sixth annual Paw Fest and this year, the event is being dedicated to service and assistance dog foundations.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 16 at Bow Wow Beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"This year's event is being dedicated to the many service and assistance dog  foundations who dutiful train various breeds to help and protect their owners each day," said Marty Dennis, Paw Fest's 2012 chairwoman.

Parking during that time will be available for $1 or a donation of used eyeglasses.

Proceeds from the Lion Club's fundraiser benefits various community projects, Lion's foundations, in addition to aiding those individuals with impaired vision through eye exams, glasses, and assistance dogs, said Dennis.

"Last year's event was attended by over 2,000 visitors where owners and their dog(s) experienced an array of dog-related vendors, animal rescue groups, dog training exercises/exhibits, dog contests, raffles and more," she said.

Dog Contest:

  • Best Trick
  • Best Costume (parade around the park)
  • Dog/Owner Look-A-Like

This year, the special contest judge is Tom Erickson of WNIR.

Vendors and rescue groups who would like to be a part of the fundraiser should contact Chairwoman, Marty Dennis at Duhstoy2@aol.com or 330-607-2242.
