Police Get Call About 10-Year-Old Armed with BB Gun

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Mac Drive Aug. 6 about a 10-year-old boy who was sitting outside the apartment building with a BB gun.

The caller told police the child harasses her younger children and makes them afraid to go outside. She also told Stow Police the boy was shooting the gun while outside.

An officer went to the apartment and talked to the child's mother, who denied her son had a BB gun outside, according to the report.

The 10-year-old came to the door and admitted to police that he had a BB gun outside, but did not shoot it, officers said.

He brought the gun to the officer, who forfeited it under possession of an airgun.

The case is being handled by Stow Youth Services.

Oh brother. How sad the time we live in when a kid can't even have a BB-Gun. Of course there are consequences to the improper handling of one, but to confiscate it instead of giving a warning - seems a bit overboard.

Just what does this mean?
"He brought the gun to the officer, who forfeited it under possession of an airgun."

What kind of person takes a BB gun away from a kid ? Kids need to be taught responsibility, especially regarding guns. For the cops to show up and take it away is just unacceptable. What public good was served here, officer ?

Unacceptable? Seriously? BB guns are not legal within the city limits of stow, or anything that shoots a projectile. What if the kid doing the bullying with this bbgun shot one of the kids in the eye? You all would be outraged that the police or parents hadn't done something about it!

The whole world seems to be motivated by "what if" anymore. "What if " the kid went on a BB gun rampage and shot up a whole town ? Do you really know how ridiculous it sounds every time you begin a sentence with "what if" ? A kid having a BB gun is not a major crime, or any crime at all. This kind of "there outta be law" closed minded crap is what is eating away at every freedom we have left.

And if a kid shot Another kid with it,I would blame the parents not the police, people who say that don't need children until they can learn some self responsibility.

Yes Ed, in the hands of a clearly unsupervised 10 yr old, they are. Get YOUR facts straight.
