This morning the Record Publishing Co., which publishes the Record-Courier and several weekly newspapers in Northeast Ohio, announced its request to the city of Kent for a tax abatement to move back to Portage County's largest city.
The announcement, in the form of a news story, briefly summed up the requested abatement, which estimates show would save the company as much as $13,834 annually for 12 years — up to $166,000 total —on a $3 million investment in the company's West Main Street building.
The move will close the company's Stow offices, located at 1619 Commerce Dr., and consolidate the bulk of their offices working in Ravenna into the former Kent Mazda building.
Kent Patch Editor Matt Fredmonsky and Kent Patch Reporter Nicole Hennessy have been reporting on this story for nearly two weeks. Look for our coverage this week, including how the communities of Ravenna and Stow will feel the loss of about 40 employees each.
The abatement would require approval from Kent City Council, which is scheduled to vote on it next Wednesday.
