Redmon Funeral Home Pursuing Cremation at Darrow Road Location Again

The funeral home pulled its initial request after there was backlash from nearby residents saying it didn't want to "jeopardize the reputation we've built over 44 years."

Redmon Funeral Home wants permission to offer cremation — again.

The first time the funeral home requested the change in zoning, residents near the Darrow Road business went to public meetings to express their displeasure with the possible change.

Shortly after, Keith Redmon, president of the funeral home, pulled his request.

"We are not willing to subject the grieving families we serve to the planned activities that have been threatened, nor are we willing to jeopardize the reputation we’ve built over 44 years in this community.

Additionally, we appreciate the vast majority of neighbors and residents who support our efforts to further invest in and expand our services here," he previously said in a statement issued to the media.

The new request was tabled until the Sept. 25 meeting by the Planning Commission this week so its members have more time to evaluate the proposed amendment further and become more educated about crematories.

The Redmon Family have and are still a very reputible family within Stow and surrounding communities. Their request to create a crematorium is only just for them - to offer families this service without the added cost of doing so elsewhere. With today's governmental regulations of such equipment and use, the opposition to this request should take some time to learn more of the proposal and talk directly with the Redmon Family before assuming otherwise.
