School District Responds to Rod Armstrong's Lawsuit

The school board members and treasurer at the Stow-Munroe Falls School district have not received the complaint yet, but in a statement said, "We are confident when the truth is revealed it will be proven there is no merit whatsoever to the reported alleg

Member Rod Armstrong against his fellow school board members and the district treasurer because of things he claims was illegal during an executive session Aug. 13. 

Armstrong filed the complaint Monday claiming there was an "improper convening of executive sessions [Aug. 13, 2012], failure to record minutes of public meetings, violation of free speech and defamation."

Armstrong's lawyer, Warner Mendenhall, says he thinks they've got a good case. Mendenhall also said if any money should be awarded to Armstrong, his client . 

The district's attorney, Adam Miller, has not returned a call for comment to Patch.

But, the district did release the following statement to the media Thursday evening:

"While the Board of Education has not received a formal complaint, we are aware a complaint has been filed.

We continue to uphold our obligation to protect confidentiality, Ohio Sunshine Law and particularly the duty each of us holds with regard to confidentiality and protecting the privilege of information. We are confident when the truth is revealed it will be proven there is no merit whatsoever to the reported allegations, and we are confident the Board’s procedure and policies will be upheld.  

The Board of Education continues to make children and learning our primary focus. We look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence and providing every student in Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools an outstanding education."
