Sobriety Checkpoint Southeast of Stow Nets 17 Drunk Drivers on St. Patrick's Day
Portage County was one of several counties with checkpoints March 17.
Seventeen drivers were charged with drunk driving Saturday after being stopped at a sobriety checkpoint on S.R. 43 just 15 minutes from Stow.
The checkpoint, run by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Portage County Sheriff's Office and Brimfield Police, screened 582 cars total between 10 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.
Of those 582 cars, 23 cars were diverted, according to the highway patrol. A total 25 people were arrested.
The highway patrol announced the location of the checkpoint on S.R. 43 Saturday morning following several days of announcements about a possible checkpoint in Portage County.

Wow. The DUI Task Force finally went to an affluent neighborhood, instead of the lower income neighborhoods. And netted more DUIs than they get at the lesser income areas. I guess the more money people have, the more they drive drunk.

TB Player - i wouldn't call state route 43 in brimfield affluent nor low-income, by any means; middle-class, i guess. and i've seen them set up there many times, in fact (just north of 76 on 43, usually). and i've also seen them set up just north of kent/mantua, on 43. the target is obvious in both cases, though: people coming into/out of kent to party downtown. nothing to do with income (and i'm guessing there's not many people from brimfield going into kent for drinks with college students).
