Some Report Cards Are Late: Here's Why
A system glitch is delaying the hard copy release of report cards until Nov. 11.
After seeing some comments from a Stow Patch reader on this letter to the editor, the school district wanted to explain the reason for the delay in receiving report cards in some grades.
Report cards were originally scheduled to be received on Nov. 4. For grades Kindergarten through sixth grade, they will now be given out Nov. 11.
"They were delayed one week due to the fact that Progress Book was down for maintenance for a full week, and teachers weren't able to access the system and include their comments," according to a district press release. "In order for teachers to communicate with parents, the district decided to postpone sending report cards home by one week in order for teachers to share information with parents."
High school and middle school students did receive their report cards last Friday because those teachers "do not include extensive comments on report cards," a statement from the district said.
Parents also have the ability to look at their student's report card on Progress Book. To do this, go to www.smfschools.org and click the "Parent" tab and then "Progress Book."

Do our schools always have off on election days whether in November, winter or May elections? Or is it only certain times that just happens? Students have off for this particular Tuesday election which coincides with the new property tax increase request Issue 20. I'm assuming that's just a coincidence and that they have off for the other elections like in winter and spring when we have them. Or is it only with larger elections due to crowds, but of course this one isn't a big one since there's no congressional or senate races, state or federal, nor a presidential primary. I'm just wondering which election days they try to make sure the students are off from school for. Cuyahoga Falls, who doesn't have a levy issue to vote on, but still has people voting in the schools still has school on session during the polls being open, so their day they have off for grades is Friday which students and parents like since it makes since to have a longer weekend when you have to have the special work day for teachers around this time in November.

Report cards are issued by each school district. Each district uses ProgressBook by Software Answers for K-12 technology, which includes managing grades online, posting to Parent/Student Access pages and feeding printed report cards. Even though it's summer, there might still be staff in your school office - give them a call. Have great summer!

Software Answers is the author of ProgressBook. Your district is the organization that uses it, manages the software and controls availability. Most probably your district made an administrative decision to make ProgressBook unavailable when teachers enter report card grades. Some districts choose to leave Parent Access open during report card time. Your school office might know when you'll get access again.
