The group's annual membership drive and open house is Thursday and is a great way to get involved in the community and to get to know your neighbors and new friends.

Everyone can connect on Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter ... but how about connecting with your neighbors in Stow and nearby communities, in person?

The Stow Newcomers Club is having its annual membership drive and open house Oct. 6 at the , 4150 Fishcreek Rd., at 6:30 p.m.

Although the Newcomers have open arms any time of year, Newcomers President Jayne Cormier said once a year the group tries to attract new members.

Right now, there are 20 members in the non-profit community service-based women's group. The club has been around 30 years and meets at the Presbytarian Church, but Cormier says, "we are not affiliated with any specific church or religion."

Club membership is open to all residents of Stow, Munroe Falls and its surrounding areas, Cormier said, adding dues are $25 a year.

"There is something for everyone at the Stow-Munroe Falls Newcomers Club," said Cormier. "Whether you are new to the area or have lived here all your life, the S-MF Newcomers is here to help you get involved in our community, meet new people, and make this area your new home."

Newcomers clubs are organized across the United States and they all have the same mission: "Providing opportunities for women to make friends through social activities and community service," said Cormier.

During the open house, desserts will be served and the women will make a fall craft.

"We are a diverse group with varying interests and at various stages of our lives. It is our goal to offer social opportunities (single and couple events), children’s activities, as well as interesting and fun community service projects," she said.
