Stow city officials are banking on another successful application to the Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation to improve more children's routes to school.

The city plans to ask ODOT for $373,867 to add several new paths to schools in the city.

The city plans to improve the following paths:

  • Installation of a sidewalk on Fishcreek Road south of Stow Road
  • Re-striping pedestrian crossings in ladder style at the following intersections: Graham Road and Charring Cross Drive; Kent Road and Charring Cross Drive; and Kent Road and Hiwood Avenue
  • Install a path through city-owned property west of the intersection of Fishcreek Road and Celia Drive near the intersection with Lynda Lane
  • Establish a crosswalk at Fishcreek Road and Celia Drive intersection

The city was awarded $331,000 in May and $284,000 in April 2011 for similar improvements.

The deadline for this latest grant application was Friday.

My kids could ride their bike to school (eventually) if they attended either of the two elementary schools we pass to get to Indian Trail. It's time for Stow schools to rezone the districts, it hasn't been done in 40 years.

Why can't the City of Stow put a thick wood-chip path down on the schoolpath from Echo Rd. to Indian Trail? It's a serious mud-pit. Kids can't walk through a school path of mud and show up all muddy to school. Someone isn't doing their job. I mean how hard is this really??

If it's not that hard why don't you get off the couch and do it?
