Update: Man Charged For Cheek-Biting Incident
Matthew Ziegler, 20, was arrested Jan. 31.
A Stow resident was arrested after being released from the hospital yesterday and Stow Police charged him with felonious assault after police say he threatened his father with a knife, struck him and then bit his cheek.
Matthew J. Ziegler, 20, was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He also was charged with assaulting a police dog, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
Ziegler and the father, who lives on Wimbledon Circle, were treated at an Akron hospital following the incident on Jan. 23, which happened around 2:30 a.m.
Police took Ziegler to the hospital because they used a stun gun to take him into custody. He fled his father's home when police arrived. But officers, assisted by a police dog, caught up with him.
Ziegler "was striking the dog," but the dog, Nero, is OK now, said Lt. Jeff Film.
"He could face jail time and/or fines," said Lt. Anne Stirm. "This is largely dependent upon the disposition of the case and what type of sentence is imposed by the court."
Ziegler is in Summit County Jail awaiting arraignment at the Stow Municipal Court this morning.
Police said they could not release information about why the fight began, but Ziegler's "police witnessed volatile behavior," said Film.
