Residents took to the social media outlets after people saw blue and green flahes light up the sky around 7 p.m. Sunday in Stow.

Stow Fire Capt. Mark Stone said he was in the area and saw a power line was down behind Macy's

"It was one of the higher voltage lines, but that's all I know right now," Stone said.

There are 500 or less without power in Stow as of 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, according to First Energy.

For more information, check Stow Patch Monday.

In the meantime, tell us what you saw Sunday night in the comments section of this post. Also, if you have photos, please share them by adding the picture to this post.

Aw, MAN! I was convinced it was an aurora lighting up the clouds. Oh well...

My daughter and I saw it driving on North River road. To me it looked like lightning in the sky, but I guess it could have been a high voltage line. Looked cool in any case.

That's pretty far away from Macy's, it must have been some display! Several of my personal FB friends said they saw it over in Kent too.

It was AMAZINGLY spectacular, very definitely blue, and lit up the whole sky over Stow and even into Kent for a long time. We were driving, so I didn't get a picture, but wow...if that was a power line down, that is SCARY.

I think I'll have to go to Macy's tomorrow to do some shopping ... I mean the story! haha. They are probably closed anyway, (safely) assuming they won't have power. Capt. Mark Stone said he'd have more info. in the morning and some line down safety tips.

We're on the west side of Stow near Lakeview and I saw it. I thought it might be lightening but then didn't see it out the windows that face north.

saw it driving east on 59, towards macy's, at the clearing where the airport is. every time it flashed, it lit up the entire sky a bright blue and all the lights at the target/GE plaza went off/on. it was very "war of the worlds" looking; kind of scary, but kind of awesome.

So how long did the flashes appear? Was it a quick few times or did this go on for awhile?

It went on for at least 15-20 minutes that we observed.

We left Subway on 59 near Macy's at 6:35 pm and it began within minutes as we were passing Kent Airport. The burst of color happened more than three times with the power going out in entire neighborhoods. I witnessed the last blue/green flash at 7:05 just off Graham Road. It was very eerie!

Saw it from my house, which faces east on Baird Rd. I also thought it was lightning, but was puzzled that there was no sound-glad to know now that I wasn't losing my mind lol!

We live in a neighborhood off of Marsh Road. We were all eating dinner when the lights started. We turned off all the lights in the house to see these strange lights better. We thought it was weird because it was so cold and there was no thunder. The lights soon turned to a blue/green color. They lasted about 20 minutes. After each time the sky lit up, there was a strange, faint noise that lasted only a few seconds. It was definitely very cool, but scary at the same time. It reminded me of something from the movie "War of the Worlds." I can't wait to hear exactly what it was.

I've heard that description a few times, "something out of War of the Worlds." creepy! Here's the latest update everyone: http://patch.com/A-q31M. (there's a photo and the FD said they had to stop a man from walking up close to the situation.)

Thanks for the info. Good to know what was happening. Saw it on Stow Road going south from Hudson. I like being able to get the "scoop" on local news so soon and not have to wait for the Sentry- although it might have a longer story.
