Stow Schools Recognized for Music Education

NAMM Foundation names Stow among best communities for music education

They've already won awards for their musical prowess, and now students — and educators — in the Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools are being recognized again. The NAMM Foundation, a non-profit geared toward musical advancement, named the district among 307 across the country this year to earn the Best Communities for Music Education distinction. The foundation surveys districts on a variety of topics from funding to graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and general support of musical arts before choosing those that earn the BCME title, according to the district. Brian Monroe, director of the Stow-Munroe Falls High School band, said it's an honor to again receive the distinction for Stow's musical …

High School Band Wants Military Photos for Upcoming Show

Performance "Heroes and Legends, an American Celebration" to honor local military members

The Stow-Munroe Falls High School Wind Ensemble needs your help to honor local members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The band, joined this year by the high school choir, will perform its annual show honoring local military members on April 27. Brian Monroe, director of the band, said they're looking for as many photos of Stow and Munroe Falls residents or alumni who are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces for a tribute during the show. "The concert’s actually two-part," Monroe said. "It’s kind of relaxed American music, and the second half is all patriotic. And as part of that we have always had people send in photographs … and we display those pictures as part of the presentation." During this year's tribute, the band will play "Hero …

Stow Students in Award-Winning Musical Group

ETC School of Musical Arts nabs 3 grand championships in 2013

Nick Campagna has good reason to boast. The choir director for Stow-Munroe Falls High School also leads the ETC School Musical Arts Show Choir, a 50-plus student performance group comprised mostly of Stow students and based out of the Akron school. The group is comprised of about 44 singer/dancers, close to a dozen instrumental musicians and about half a dozen crew members. About 21 students, nearly half the group, attend Stow High School. The ETC show group took first place, or won grand champion, at three competitions this year that included: "Reach for …

Congressman Calls out Stow Art Students

See how to submit your artwork

Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) is inviting high school students in Ohio’s 14th district to submit their art work for this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The Congressional Art Competition was first started in 1982 as a way for students in each congressional district to showcase their artistic abilities. The winning art piece will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year and the student with the winning entry will be invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in Washington, D.C. “The Congressional Art Competition is a great way for Northeast Ohio students to show the rest of the country just how talented they are," Joyce said. "I look forward to seeing all of the submissions and bringing the winner to Washington for a ribbon cutting …
