Mayor, City of Stow

A Community of Volunteers

Stow has many businesses that are so generous with their resources and find ways to contribute positively to the community. At any given fundraiser, event or community gathering you will see sponsorships and volunteers from local companies. The business community of Stow is committed to our community and its residents.

One local company that emphasizes its responsibility as a good corporate citizen and community member is Gavin Scott Salon & Spa.  The staff members at Gavin Scott regularly volunteer their time and efforts to a wide variety of charities. Gavin Scott also encourages its clientele to become involved the charitable efforts and has a new organization each month that it asks its customers to consider supporting.

Since opening in Stow in 2008, Gavin Scott has donated money and in-kind contributions to more than 15 different area organizations and has no plans to stop its generosity. Here are just a few highlights of Gavin Scott Salon’s commitment to the community:

  • Project Homeless Connect-donated free haircuts and socks to homeless men and women 2009, 2010 and 2011
  • Stow Relay for Lifeparticipated 2009, 2010 and 2011 and donated services for other participants
  • GriefCare Placeparticipated in the 2010 Grapes and Gourmet Guys fundraiser event
  • American Red Cross—donate free haircuts to everyone that donates blood as part of selected blood drives
  • Change Bandit for Akron Children’s Hospitalthe salon has collected a total of over $3,500 for the hospital
  • Children’s Cut-A-Thon to benefit Gino Altieri—Gavin Scott opened its doors on a Sunday to raise money for the medical expenses that Gino’s (a Fishcreek Elementary student) family has incurred.

There are many more worthy charitable causes and organizations that the staff and owners of Gavin Scott regularly support with time, money and tangible donations. I am happy to say that Gavin Scott Salon is one of the many generous members of our local business community. Thank you for everything you do and for reflecting the best of “community” in your business!

Sara, thank you for all of the fluff letters on this site. Seriously. They are a great service to our community. We all know that you just write all of these so you can get your photo on the site and gain more recognition for the upcoming election. It's pathetic. Maybe step out from behind the current mayor and have an original opinion about something. Please don't become our next mayor. Our city deserves so much more.

Chris- The tone of your response to this post by Sara is very immature. Why so spiteful? Sara, like other office holders, does what she feels is right. If you don't like the decisions that she has made, vote for someone else, work on another person's campaign or run for office yourself. Posting hurtful comments is not very conducive to reasoned dialogue.

We're all known by the company we keep and this old corn cob would be proud to rub elbows with the likes of the Gavin Scott Cru anytime! Thanks for the informative blog, Sara...keep it up!

The conclusion of President Lincoln's First Inaugural Address was changed, upon the advice of sage counsel, prior to it's delivery. Instead of demanding, "Shall it be peace or sword?", President-elect Lincoln beseeched, "I am loth to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stre[t]ching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearthstone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

Agreed, no need to be negative. That being said I don't agree with Sara Drew and I also feel that she puts on a show for the public. I will be voting for someone other than her for mayor.

Good grief, people. Please go back and READ the article. It is about the Gavin Scott Salon and Spa, and the good work that they do to support the community that we live in. I'm sorry to see that the majority of you used this as a forum to discuss a completely different subject, and detract from the original intent of the article which was to discuss the amazing things that the girls at the salon do to help others. Gavin Scott, I thank you for what you do for me and my hair AND for the community. Shame on those of you who sucked the joy out of this for the salon.

Basha, received you post, unfortunately I am in Michigan and in frugal retirement. You idea is to help moms is teriffic, maybe you could expand it in the future to help grandmas and grandpas living alone who may have just returned from the hospital and could use a little help with small chores. Here in Royal Oak Michigan our senior center has a program partially funded by the local hospital called Roses. Just a thought. And good luck with your program that I sure will be a success.

I think that Mayor Drew is showing her compassion for her city and for all those wonderful people & businesses who are doing so much to help people during a difficult economic time. Gavin Scott Salon & Spa are to be congratulated for their caring, selflessness & kindness. Let's just appreciate the message that the Mayor is trying to deliver of the kindness of others. We can all use a little kindness.

Reading through all of these emails makes me wonder: Is this the best we can do as a culture? A community?

Pathetic.
