Wouldn’t you like to know what goes on in the mind of the composer when he’s writing a certain musical score or a symphony?
Well as luck would have it the Stow Symphony Orchestra, with Darrel Music as conductor, invited Dr. Eric Ewazen to explain and introduce his "Chamber Orchestra" piece to the Winter Concert audience March 3, 2012.
To illustrate how humble and accessible Dr. Ewazen is he related to the audience, "Recently I've been asked about my music.
Students have been writing papers on my music. And I think it's really cool. This was a little while ago; I got a call from a trumpet student from my old alma mater, Eastman.
The student left a message on my machine. He said, "Mr. Ewazen, I'm writing a paper on your 'Trumpet Sonata' and I was wondering if I could speak to you to get the ideas right from you about your views on the music."
Pause.
"By the way, Mr. Ewazen, could you give me a call back tonight? My paper is due tomorrow."
Roar of laughter from the crowd.
"I could identify, so I called him," Dr. Ewazen’s replied.
