Rod Armstrong has strayed from his responsibilities as outlined by the Ohio School Boards Association

While serving as a member of my board of education, I will accept the responsibility to improve public education.

To that end I will:

• Remember that my first and greatest concern must be the educational welfare of all children attending our schools.

 • Obey the laws of Ohio and the United States • Respect the confidentiality of privileged information.

• Recognize that as an individual board member I have no authority to speak or act for the board.

• Work with other members to establish and support effective policies.

• Delegate authority for the administration of the schools to the superintendent and staff.

 • Encourage ongoing communications among board members, the board, students, staff, and the community.

• Render all decisions based on available facts and my informed, independent judgment rather than succumbing to the influence of individuals or special interest groups.

• Make every effort to attend all board meetings.

• Become informed concerning the issues to be considered at each meeting.

• Understand that the board meeting is not the place to grandstand or spring surprises.

• Improve my boardmanship by studying educational issues and by participating in in-service programs.

• Support the employment of staff members based on qualifications and not the result of influence.

• Cooperate with other board members and administrators to establish a system of regular and impartial evaluations of all staff.

• Avoid conflicts of interest or the appearance thereof.

• Refrain from using my board position for the benefit of myself, family members or business associates.

• Express my personal opinions but, once the board has acted, accept the will of the majority.

This is truly someone who has no business being involved with any educational decisions.

As a Stow resident it's sad to see the continuous bashing of quality leaders in our school district. Stow graduates continue to get accepted into distinguished institutions of higher education.
Where are the local Doctors/Lawyers and other ACTIVE professionals that should be running for our school board?

He has no business being on any board of education. Maybe just gardening or yelling at kids that run through his yard.

Mike, Rodney Armstrong has raised two children in the Stow School system, both of whom attained the rank of Eagle Scout.,He has an MBA and is retired from Ford Motor Co. as a cost analyst. I'm not sure what more you're looking for in a school board member, but I can assure you that Rodney Armstrong is a valued member of this board. As a long time member of Stow PTA and a member of the former Finance Committee (that was disbanded by the current administration), I have seen Rodney's long term interest in Stow Schools and his many years of attendance at school board meetings can attest to that. That he chooses to ensure that school administration does not sweep information under the rug and follows the laws of the state of Ohio regarding public and private meetings is a good thing in my opinion.
He is fulfilling his promise to those who elected him by a) Encouraging ongoing communications among board members, the board, students, staff, and the community and b) Rendering all decisions based on available facts and his informed, independent judgment rather than succumbing to the influence of individuals or special interest groups.

Unfortunately he is a fire-starter who will end up costing tax payers more dollars to go to court; how is that good cost analysis? He could have called for an open forum to discuss the issues and it is clear that his first agenda is to drag peoples name through the mud. Great Job Rod!!

Perhaps there are fires that need to be started.

Just Curious is this Rod Armstrong still on the school board? Based on public knowledge he is a complete disaster.
