The Stow 6th Grade Travel Boys Basketball Team wanted to come up with a community service event to participate in and be able to give back to other children during the holiday season.
They adopted two families from Summit County Children's Services; the boys raised money and bought Christmas gifts for a total of three boys and 1 girl, and were also able to purchase extra toys for Children's Services Holiday Toy Room.
The boys were given change bags at the beginning of the season to collect spare change from their family and friends.
They added up the change and the boys had gone above and beyond, raising $487.00 to purchase gifts for the families.
As a team, the boys went shopping at Walmart in Stow and had Christmas lists from the families with each of the children's holiday wishes.
After they loaded their carts and paid for the merchandise, they then went back to the Coach's house for a "Wrapping party."
The boys wrapped the gifts themselves and were very excited to be able to do so much for other children that are less fortunate. This Friday the team will be delivering the gifts to Summit County Children's Services.
A team is not only one that plays together but also works together
to help others and volunteer within the community.
