Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Hi Stow Patchers!  Two Patch editors will now be covering Stow happenings and I will be transitioning to a more regional role as a community editor with Patch as of Monday. Watch the attached video to meet Patch Editors John Deike and Megan Rozsa. They are veterans who have been covering Cuyahoga Falls and Fairlawn-Bath, respectively.  Please keep in touch and keep participating on the site! My email is the same, so feel free to send me notes or talk to me on the Stow Patch Facebook page. Also, check out my professional Facebook page too.  YOU make Patch successful and that is always …
Hello Stow Patch!  I'm teasing my hair really high and packing my bag with everything sparkly I own and heading to the Jersey Shore. After my visit, I'll still be on vacation for about a week more. (For all of you going, "Oh my, I can't believe she's telling people she won't be at her home." I do have a roommate and a very ferocious dog who will still be there, so no funny business!) Anyway, from Sept. 19 through Sept. 30, I'm on vacation and away from the website. (You know I'll sneak some peeks, though.) While I'm gone, friend and coworker Kasha Legeza will be filling in for me. If you need…
When it comes down to it, behind just about every small business is an entrepreneur hoping to turn their passion into a paycheck. But, as many wise business advisers have noted: Hope is not a strategy. Business owners need support to turn dreams into reality. That's why Patch is pleased to announce a new partnership with SCORE, a nonprofit organization with 12,000 business experts nationwide who provide free mentoring to small business owners. The partnership makes sense because we believe that when local commerce grows, the whole community gets stronger. Patch already provides free listings …
Ahhhh, the first day back to school. I always loved it. Shiny new shoes, the anticipation of where my desk would be, who my teacher would be, reuniting with friends, the cool new brown bag snack ... Maybe I was one of the odd balls, but I always loved returning to school. I even get sad now that I'm a "grown up" and I can't prepare for another year of education. Whether it was when I was younger and picking out Trapper Keepers or when I was older and I was packing the car up with Ramen to head back to college — I miss it all.  (I'll admit, I still go out and buy myself a new sparkly folder, …

Are you excited for Stow's Fourth of July Parade? I sure am ... and not only because I love seeing Stow's residents and we're celebrating America's Independence, but because I am driving a really cool car.  Local Editor Megan Rozsa from Fairlawn-Bath Patch and I will be cruising down Kent Road with the wind blowing in our hair at the high speed of 2 mph Wednesday when the parade steps off at 10 a.m.  The Classic Fiat dealership in Mentor (there's a Patch site there) let me drive a Fiat 500 in the parade! And, you can win the car! Click here to enter: www.vr2show.com. Megan said she's going to…
Patch sites in the Akron-area have been featuring two pets every weekend that are in need of adoption from One of a Kind Pets in Akron for months now.  Fairlawn-Bath Editor Megan Rozsa said she's heard from employees at One of a Kind Pets that say the added visibility on the site helps get many of these pets homes faster.  But, I wanted to share one particular story where a Stow family started a conversation on the Stow Patch Facebook page and ended up adopting Mallorie and Murray, brother and sister pooches, 24 hours after the story posted.  Here's what I posted Saturday around 2 p.m. and …
Residents may notice certain spots around town look at lot more colorful and maintained recently.  The city's Adopt-A-Spot program is in full swing and all of the spot caretakers have put flowers and plants in the ground.  I am proud to say that I have a spot this year — behind City Hall at the service department entrance. Drive by sometime and tell me what you think.  I organized the petunias by color gradually, so there's somewhat of an ombre effect. Stow Arborist Sue Mottl said this of my spot: "Your site looks GREAT! As I said, I would never have thought to do the colors the way you did…
Hello Stow!  You know I love you ... but I need a little break. I'm taking some time off to visit Washington D.C. to see some college friends and then I'm off to Kalahari in Sandusky later in the week. Hey, I deserve a week packed with fun, right?  Coincidentally, some of Stow's politicians were recently in D.C. too. Quick shameless story plug: Fallen Officer Bastock's Name Added to Memorial Wall in D.C. Tuesday Stow Politicians Returning to D.C. for Local Government Conference I know Mayor Sara Drew promised another Patch blog this year about the experience. Look for that this week on the …
Awhile back, I shared a list of 50 Facebook pages Stow residents should "like." I received such great feedback that I was able to create a post with even more local Stow Facebook pages to follow. So, I figured I could do the same thing with Twitter to help you and myself find more local people, businesses and organizations to follow! I asked three active Twitter users that I already follow: Mayor Sara Drew (@saradrew), Councilman Mike Rasor (@MRasor0200) and Stow resident Jim Miller (@yourfavoritejim), to throw some suggestions my way. Here's what they came up with: Miller suggests: Matt …
The Doughboy — we drive by the statue at City Hall nearly every day, but how often do we really stop to reflect on its importance and what it represents? The plaque underneath the bronze reproduction of the Sentry reads: "Dedicated to those who have served our country. Their memory lives on forever and we shall never forget." In honor of Second Lt. David Rylander, I dedicate this photo to his life of service and selflessness. We shall never forget your sacrifices. Thank you.     Click here for funeral and procession information.
Most of us sit behind a desk all day or stare at a computer screen ... let's change it up for an hour next week.  Stow Patch Editor Amanda Harnocz and Ad Rep Brandon Tidd are going to host a coffee event at Mocha Joe's April 24 from 10 to 11 a.m.  Sneak out of work if you're nearby for a quick cup of coffee and some conversation about what's happening in the city, what's happening at Patch or anything that's on your mind.  It might just be a good networking event too depending on who else stops in.  See you there!
I'm back from Canada ... and because I missed Stow and all of you so much, I wanted to find some time to see you guys.  (Did you see I met Lucille Ball while I was visiting our neighbors to the north? Sorry, I had to share the funny picture.) Anyway, come meet me and Ad Rep Brandon Tidd at Nervous Dog Tuesday March 20 (the first day of spring, yay!) from 9 to 11 a.m. Come and chat with us, or ask us questions. We love talking about Patch and what's going on in Stow — especially after a lot of caffeine. Looking forward to seeing those of you who I already have or haven't met Tuesday, Manda PS…
Hi Stow friends, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am going to be on vacation for a few days and will return back to work on Tuesday March 20 (the first day of spring)!  A family member is house sitting — so to all the schemers out there, don't try to break into my house, or TP it!  While I'm vacationing out of the country (don't get too excited, it's just Canada) you will still get all the news you deserve! Fill-in Editor Kasha Legeza, who many of you are already familiar with from stories she's written for several Patch sites, will be manning the site for me while I'm gone. (She's …
Thank you to everyone who attended our first ever (and to-be annual) Patchiversary event Friday morning.  It was such a pleasure meeting all of you! I may say this over and over again, but it is the truth: you make Patch successful. I am glad that the site is making your lives easier, keeping you informed and spreading the word about your accomplishments, changes and events/announcements.  We gave away 35 cups of coffee Jan. 27 to some current Patchers and to some new ones. We also signed up many for our online newsletter. (If you'd like to sign up for the newsletter, click here.) Many met …

Maybe I was one of the odd balls, but I always loved returning to school. I even get sad now that I'm a working woman and I can't prepare for another year of education. The stories are chilling, but humbling and it's a feeling and a memory that will never be forgotten.  The Ohio local editors met yesterday and we shared what we were doing and what we were thinking on Sept. 11, 2001. Every story was interesting and some gave me chills. No matter how deeply each person was affected that day, there's no doubt we all were changed. Here's my story: I was in chemistry class at St. Peter Chanel High School. I remember finding out it happened because my teacher got a phone call saying the towers were hit. Her brother was working in the towers. She frantically tried …
Father's Day is coming up June 19 and we want to pay tribute to all of the dads in Stow. With the help of all of you, we will feature the many reasons why we love dads. Finish this sentence: I love my dad because ... in an email to Editor Amanda.Harnocz@patch.com. Feel free to share photos of you and your father too! We're looking for serious, funny, sentimental posts from both children and adults! Pay tribute to your dad by letting everyone know why you love him. Please include your first and last name and your father's name in the email. Please include the ages for children's responses. To …
