DESCRIPTION:The Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) is h
osting an April 5 meeting to receive public comments regarding its Draft
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Fiscal Years 2012 through
2015.\n&nbsp\;\nThe TIP is the comprehensive program of more than $628 m
illion of highway\, public transit\, and bicycle and pedestrian improvem
ent projects scheduled to receive federal transportation funds over the
next four years within the Greater Akron area.&nbsp\; AMATS is the agenc
y responsible for planning and scheduling transportation projects within
this area.&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\nThe agency will present the draft program d
uring a public meeting on Tuesday\, April 5 scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
  in the Stow Safety Building located at 3800 Darrow Road in Stow.&nbsp\;
Transit service is available to this meeting via METRO Route #103 &ndas
h\; Stow/Hudson.\n&nbsp\;\nThe latest TIP addresses the common problem c
onfronting the nation&rsquo\;s transportation planning agencies: limited
funding for projects.&nbsp\; While the draft program includes a number
of major and much-needed improvement projects\, it also promotes preserv
ation of the area&rsquo\;s existing system rather than costly roadway ex
pansions.\n&nbsp\;\nA unique aspect of this TIP is that it has many proj
ects aimed at promoting connectivity among communities such as improved
public transit service\, new bike and hike trails and similar pedestrian
-oriented improvements.\n&nbsp\;\nThe public is encouraged to comment on
the Draft TIP.&nbsp\; Copies of the draft program will also be availab
le for public review for 14 days beginning Monday\, April 4 and ending F
riday\, April 15 at various locations including the AMATS web site at ww
w.amatsplanning.org.\n&nbsp\;\nAll public comments should be submitted t
o AMATS by April 15.\n&nbsp\;\nPersons with disabilities needing assista

 ity Relations\, 166 S. High Street\, Room 503\, Akron\, Ohio 44308\, (vo
