AMATS Heralds 2012 with New Leadership, Closes 2011 by Making New Connections

The Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) enters 2012 with new leadership and closed 2011 with grants to Ravenna and Boston Heights.

Ravenna Mayor Joe Bica will be the 2012 chairman of the Policy Committee of the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS).  The Policy Committee is composed of 44 officials representing local municipalities, counties, transit agencies, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.  It is responsible for deciding how federal transportation funds are spent in the Greater Akron area.  Connie Krauss, the director of the Summit County Department of Community and Economic Development, will serve as vice-chairwoman.

Bica and Krauss’ one-year terms will commence in January.  They were elected during the committee’s December meeting.

Connecting Communities Planning Grant Program enters its second year

The communities of Boston Heights and Ravenna were awarded two $50,000 grants from the agency's Connecting Communities Planning Grant Program during the Policy Committee's December meeting.  To view a video update regarding this program, please click here.

Don't forget that the AMATS Citizens Involvement Committee (CIC) will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Richard Howe House located at 47 West Exchange Street in Akron.  The CIC is our agency's forum for the public to comment on the transportation issues that they care about.
