15th Annual HIKE/BIKE for Blessings May 10
Blessings of Summit & Portage Counties is holding its main fundraising event for the year. Anyone interested in supporting the non-profit organization is invited to participate in the Hike/Bike, annually held on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

Participants should collect pledges for a 3-, 6-, or 8-mile walk, run, or bike ride. Registration forms & sponsor sheets may be obtained at www.graceinkent.org/blessings or by calling telephone 330-678-9019.“The Hike/Bike event provides our largest source of income each year, allowing us to continue to help teen mothers finish their high school education by providing them financial assistance for child care,” said Jeanette Abell, Discipleship Coordinator of Blessings. “It is also an opportunity for the students enrolled to give back in appreciation for the services they receive.” Each teen being served by the Blessings program participates in the Hike/Bike event.
Blessings was created in 1995 to promote the personal responsibility of teen parents to complete their education by providing them with a mentor and child care money. The GRADS Advisory Committee of the Six District Educational Compact had realized many teen parents drop out of school under the weight of parental, financial, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs. Blessings exists today to help these young parents stay in school, function as a family, and become capable and independent citizens. The organization combines the expertise of church, school, and community in order to nurture a student’s overall growth. This nurturing, discipling, and holistic approach is unique and effective.
