JOB CLUB DIRECTOR, PRESIDENT TO ATTEND CEREMONY IN NATION'S CAPITAL Published: September 1, 2013 12:00AM – Stow Sentry

The Community Job Club Inc. of Stow has been invited by the Department of Labor to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the 26th Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez on Sept. 4, in Washington, D.C. Executive Director Diana Miller will be accompanied by Starlett Mitchell who has recently been appointed president of the organization's board of directors. They are in select company as only 600 invitations were issued.

Miller is no stranger to attending high profile events in the nation's capital. She was first invited to Washington in 2011 by Ben Seigel, deputy director of the Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, to participate in a roundtable discussion with DOL Secretary Hilda Solis about the importance of volunteer-based job clubs across the country. Seigel had discovered her Job Club's website while searching for leaders around the country who are helping the unemployed in their communities by offering free job search support. Hers was one of only 10 such clubs invited to attend.

The Community Job Club Inc. has been instrumental in helping long-term, unemployed mature workers who have struggled to return to work due to a lack of updated skills and a more complex job search process that has changed dramatically in the past five years. Since 2010, Miller has helped thousands of job seekers through the two, free workshops each month that she offers.

More recently, she has also partnered with Dix Communications to coordinate four major job fairs in the past two years.
