Vacation Bible School Celebrates Summer Olympics

The summer Olympics may be in London, but kids can enjoy all the excitement and fun of Olympic sports right here in Stow as they learn about Jesus Christ’s love.

“Christian Olympics” vacation Bible school will be held at from 6 to 8 p.m. June 10-14. The program is free and open to all children in the community in grades kindergarten through sixth.

“Christian Olympics” will include Olympic-themed games, Bible lessons, snacks, music and more.

“VBS is always an awesome week at our church,” said the Rev. David Weyrick. “The program takes over our entire building and grounds and there’s just kids everywhere. They’re having fun, singing, making friends and getting excited about God. It’s amazing.”

Children’s Director Monica Albright said connecting VBS to the summer Olympics was a deliberate choice.

“The kids will come to our program and make connections between sporting events and Christ’s love,” Albright said. “Then later in the summer, they’ll perhaps watch some of these same events on TV during the Olympics and be reminded of those connections.”

This year’s VBS program schedule shifted slightly to run Sunday to Thursday, rather than Monday through Friday, to accommodate another exciting event.

“We have several weddings scheduled this summer at our church, with one coming at the end of VBS week,” Weyrick said. “By shifting the VBS schedule by one day, we get to celebrate friends and family at two wonderful events. It will be a little hectic, but what a joy!”

Registration for “Christian Olympics” is available at the church or online at www.stowpres.org. For more information, contact Albright at 330-688-6935 or monica@stowpres.org.
