Grab & Go Kids Planner: Tubing, Dancing, Racing

Family best bets for the week.

Two ways to enjoy the fresh snow, a science lesson and a history lesson: pick and choose from this week’s array of events.

• SNOW TUBING AT POLAR BLAST

Where/When: Boston Mills/Brandywine, 1146 West Highland Rd., Northfield, Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.,
Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Take advantage of the fresh snow and go snow tubing, but be sure to check the day's snow report before heading out.

Pricing: A regular, three-hour ticket is $25 for adults and children over 7 and $15 for children under 6. Unlimited, all-day tickets are $59.

Where/When: Natatorium Health and Fitness Center, 2345 4th St., Cuyahoga Falls; Friday  from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: This one's really for the kids -- particularly for those ages 11 to 15. But don't worry, it's chaperoned. The night features three big screens: one for music videos, one for Dance Dance Revolution with four pads and one for Guitar Hero.

Pricing: $12

SUPER SCIENCE SATURDAY

Where/When:  Akron Fossils & Science Center, 2080 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Copley; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Why Go: This is a weekly activity where children ages 5 to 10 participate in a science experiment and a craft. Be prepared. It can get messy.

Pricing: $3 per class or $10 a month.

• WACKY WINTER SLED RACES

Where/When:  Goodyear Heights Metro Park, 2077 Newton St., Akron; Saturday at noon.

Why Go: Build your own "wacky" sled and race down the hill in timed heats. You bring the cardboard and plasting sheeting, the Metro Park will provide the duct tape. Racers will be placed in the following age categories: 8 to 12, 13 to 16, 17 and  up. Registration is required. Call, 330-865-8065

Pricing: Free


Where/When: Northside Station,  27 Ridge St., Akron; Sunday at 11:35  a.m.

Why Go: Take a ride on the storytelling train and hear the tales of runaway slaves. Costumed actors and actresses will bring the past back to life.
