Job Club Mentorships About Helping Jobseekers

Diana Miller wants to keep the success of the Stow Job Club rolling, and for her that means bringing in mentors to offer advice on how to find a job in today's market.

"What we’re really looking for right now … is more community support from volunteers and advisors that could really help meet with jobseekers individually when they just need somebody to talk to," Miller said. "Because somedays, it’s hard."

The non-profit, volunteer-based group, founded in April 2010, has helped teach more than 300 people how to find a job since its founding.

Now Miller is looking to offer more one-on-one counseling by bringing in employed or recently hired Stow folks to offer tips and support to those still in the market for a position.

Miller said the mentorship role could amount to a simple three to five hours a month or merely attending the job club's monthly meeting.

She said ideally mentors could provide feedback on resumés and talk with jobseekers about their search.

"I’m not saying you have to be like a career coach," Miller said. "It would be nice if somebody had a little bit of knowledge on what it takes today to find a job. Because it’s different than it used to be."

Interested mentors can find the application for mentorship on the Stow Job Club website. The job club meets at Stratford Place at 4301 Darrow Road.

"People really need support," Miller said. "How many of your friends and neigbors are in the same position as people in the job club? It’s about helping your neighbors get back to work."
