Mayor: Darrow Road to Reopen Saturday

Construction on drainage culvert beneath S.R. 91 ahead of schedule

Good news for Stow drivers—Darrow Road construction is ahead of schedule and the major thoroughfare should reopen some time Saturday.

Mayor Sara Drew told Stow City Council Thursday that the project to install a large drainage culvert beneath S.R. 91 near Kent Road is "on or even slightly ahead" of schedule.

"We anticipate that S.R. 91 will be back open Saturday some time in the late morning, which is the best news," Drew said.

The road has been closed completely between Kent Road and Thorndale Avenue since Monday. Work on that stretch of road earlier this year saw lane closures.

Kenmore Construction and the Ohio Department of Transportation are installing an 8 feet by 10 feet drainage culvert that runs underneath the road way.

The city also worked with ODOT to create a local, shorter detour for the project. ODOT's official detour directs drivers to take S.R. 59 west to Route 8 and then take Howe Avenue S.R. 91 in Tallmadge.

"So now the detour is down Highwood and Echo as opposed to Marcella and Maple," Drew said. "And Yukon (Avenue), as people will note, is only for northbound, local traffic."
