Stow Orchestra to Open Season Oct. 5

The Stow Symphony Orchestra announces its Fall concert offering, opening its 16th season under Director Darrell Lee Music the concert will be performed at the Tallmadge Alliance Church, 1155 East Avenue, Tallmadge, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

To open the Halloween season, the Orchestra will feature two classic “spooky” numbers:  Dvorak’s “The Noon Witch,” which conveys a tale of supernatural tragedy, and Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre,” which features the unusual and unearthly tuning of Concert Master Frances Hamilton’s violin.

Ms. Hamilton and Orchestra violinist Ian McIntyre join in Bach’s “Double Violin Concerto in d minor,” one of the most often-performed staples of the Baroque  violin literature.

And the Orchestra continues its exploration of the Beethoven symphonies with the melodic Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68, the “Pastoral.” Beethoven was an ardent nature lover who spent a great deal of his time on walks in  the country. Motifs in the work express his cheerful feelings on arrival in the country setting, a babbling brook, bird calls, peasant dances, and a violent summer storm.

Tickets for the upcoming concert, available at the door, are priced at $10 for adults, and $7 for seniors and students.  Children under twelve are admitted free.

Due to limited seating, advance purchase of tickets is advisable. Tickets are available for pre-sale at www.StowOrchestra.org/tickets.htm, or by calling 330-678-0029, or in limited numbers at the door.  For group rates call 330-678-0029.
