Akron Brewery Not Seeking to Locate in Stow

Different business with sound-alike name seeking to open restaurant named Thirsty Dog Grille and Brewery.

The Akron-based Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. is not seeking to locate in Stow, as we . Instead, it is a sound-alike restaurant, the Thirsty Dog Grille and Brewery — a separate business with different owners — that is gathering signatures. 

Pam Lauter is collecting signatures for a petition to obtain a liquor license for a business to be named the Thirsty Dog Grille and Brewery. The first step is voter approval. Lauter said she needs about 200 signatures from residents of Ward 4, Precinct A to get on the ballot.

The owners plan a full-service bar and grill at 1063 Graham Rd. where Bob's Big Boy once operated.

John Najeway, co-owner of Akron-based Thirsty Dog Brewing Co., said that the owners have asked Thirsty Dog Grill and Brewery to stop using their name, which Najeway says too closely resembles his business's name.

The Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. does not have a brewpub, but does have a tasting room at its 529 Grant St. location in Akron. Patrons can bring their own food while tasting the different brews available at Thirsty Dog Brewing Co., he said.
