Bites Nearby: Piatto Novo in Cuyahoga Falls

Take in the spectacular view of the Cuyahoga Falls at Piatto Novo.

The view at Piatto Novo at the in Cuyahoga Falls will grab you. But if you can afford to price of the meal ticket, the food will bring you back.

The dining room features three walls of windows with views of the Cuyahoga River’s churning waterfalls and, in wintertime, ice formations on its rocky banks.

The upscale restaurant, formerly housed in downtown Akron, features regional Italian cuisine, center cuts of beef and nightly seafood specials. Reviews have been generally flattering.

The weekend brunch, $24.95, is enormously popular. Make reservations early for Easter and Mother’s Day. Brunch includes salmon, shrimp, the omelet station and caviar (to the uninitiated: That’s not jelly you’re spreading on the cracker).  Reservations may be made online.

Executive Chef Roger Thomas apprenticed in France and worked in England as well before returning to more familiar territory in Akron and then Cuyahoga Falls. He was a chef at Ken Stewart’s and other Akron-area landmarks before opening Piatto in downtown Akron in 2000. He moved into the Sheraton Suites in October 2005.

Hours: Open 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Restaurant closes at 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 p.m. Sunday, and for a pause between lunch and dinner from 2 to 5:30 p.m. each day.
