Custom Cake Creations Expands to Stow Storefront

Specialty cakes are the norm for Cuyahoga Falls women

Jen Jacobs and Donna Swanson don’t just make cakes.

They make works of art.

The Cuyahoga Falls women recently expanded their home-based cake business into a storefront on Graham Road in Stow, and they’re specialty is making three-dimensional sculpture cakes about anything you can dream up.

“We actually made Bob Marley on the top of a cake,” Jacobs said. “That was fun.”

Recent works include a giant replica of Ohio Stadium where the Ohio State University Buckeyes play football and a replica of the Northfield Village Fire Department—a cake that weighed so much it had to be set on a piece of plywood and carried by several men.

Two stay-at-home moms, the women started their business in 2005.

“Really the only intention was to make our kids neat birthday cakes, and people started asking for cakes and it ballooned from there,” Jacobs said.

Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. marks their grand opening in their new Stow location. Custom Cake Creations has been open there since early August.

Everything they make is homemade and made-to-order, so don’t expect to just stop in and buy a cupcake or a cookie—but they will make you a dozen of either if you’re looking for something simple.

“If somebody calls and wants a dozen cupcakes, we do that also,” Swanson said.

For Jacobs and Swanson, perhaps their biggest challenges now come from their children who, knowing the possibilities, demand extravagant cakes for their birthdays.

“We love our jobs,” Jacobs said. “It makes people happy.”
