Giant Eagle Ending Foodperks

The program is 'a little too complex,' according to the grocer

Giant Eagle is ending its Foodperks program, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The last day to earn Foodperks will be Feb. 13 and discounts must be redeemed by May 31.

According to a letter obtained by the newspaper, the CEO said customers thought the Foodperks program was "a little too complex." The program gave customers a 1 percent discount on groceries for every 10 gallons of gas purchased at GetGo gas stations.

Foodperks started in 2009.

Giant Eagle's Fuelperks program will remain.

Guess they got tired of keeping track of both. I didn't feel it was complex at all. It works the same as the fuelperks doesn't it?

I used the Foodperks program and did not find it too complex. But then, they also cancelled their program for free prescriptions for certain diabetic medications and certain antibiotics. GE refuses to admit they are doing this to help their bottom line. Guess I'm just a little to cynical to believe their corporate answers. In the end I will shop elsewhere for my prescriptions and I won't be so devoted to getting my groceries there. It's the old story when a company which has developed a good market percentage and then starts to put more emphasis on profit than customer care. That's not to say profit is unimportant but to say that running rough shod over customer loyalty in pursuit of profits will backfire every time.

Maybe the program was to complicated for those in Pittsburgh. It wasn't for us here. They will loose some customers with this as Giant Eagles prices are higher than most.

Ahahahahahahaha..... love it!!! :)

All this will change for me is I won't get gas at Get Go stations unless I'm ready to cash in my fuelperks. I get a few cents off at Sheetz everyday and their prices are usually lower to begin with so I'll just head over there instead.

This is going to rank up there with netflix for buiseness mistakes. I fuel for work there only for the foodperks as do 15 others. This move will cost the stow getgo's 1500 gallons/week. not including personnal gas. thats about $5300/week and that is just from us, imagine the fall out with others.

With all the changes that G.Eagle are doing, I think they are going to suffer for it in a long run. We have sooo much negative stuff going on in our lives that we need something "GOOD".....even if it is a free prescription for us who have diabetis or the people in need for antibiotics.....it was what brought some people to Giant Eagle. While waiting for the prescription to be filled people would shop which is what they wanted. I will now shop around for the best prescription prices...SO TIME WILL TELL !!

I've hardly ever use the foodperks discount becouse I never got that much discount from it. We love shopping there. Our income isn't in 6 figure bracket so the foodperks didn't mean much to us becouse we didn't spend hundreds of dollers a week there. It's really sad that the only reason you shop there is only becouse of that.
On second thought if 50% of you stop going to GetGo I be able to get in and out in 5 minutes instead of waiting 15 minutes for morans to figure out where to put the gas hose.
