Gluten-Free Baker Wins Betty Crocker Recipe Challenge

Holly Phillips' recipe for apple spice cupcakes helped her win the contest and $5,000 after receiving the most votes on Betty Crocker's first-ever gluten-free recipe contest.

The taste of victory is so sweet for Stow resident Holly Phillips.

Her recipe for apple spice cupcakes with maple cream cheese frosting and candied walnuts was selected out of thousands of recipes as the winner of the Betty Crocker gluten-free recipe contest.

As the grand prize winner, Phillips will get $5,000 and the chance to be featured on a Betty Crocker Gluten Free dessert mix or Bisquick Gluten Free baking mix package and/or be featured in a Betty Crocker publication

Recipes were judged on five key categories: taste, creativity, ease of preparation, consumer appeal and appearance, according to a press release from Betty Crocker.

Thousands of recipes were submitted and Phillips was one of 10 finalists. To become the winner, Phillips received the most votes for her recipe online.

The grand prize money will be helpful for Holly and her husband, , because they decided. The store, Mrs. P's Gluten Free Bakery, is expected to be open soon.
