Jaco Environmental Featured in New York Times Story

Jaco Environmental in Stow has been gaining national recognition for its refrigerator technology and recycling services.

 in Stow, one of two companies worldwide that processes refrigerators to be reused and recycled, has caught the attention of The New York Times.

Jaco's process enables about 95 percent of each old refrigerator to be recycled, Stow Assistant Planning Director Rob Kurtz said.

"The process shreds refrigerators and freezers and then separates the metals, glass, plastic, and insulation foam for recycling," Kurtz  said.

The NYT reported Jaco picked up about 480,000 refrigerators for recycling last year.

The company, which participates in a voluntary program to bag and burn old insulating foam in refrigerators, expects to receive a comparable volume of old refrigerators during the next decade, according to The New York Times story.
