Visions for Vacancies: What Should Replace the Former Damon's?

The mayor said there's been some interest in the building, but Patch wants to know what Stow residents would like to see in the former Damon's.

Patch got an overwhelming response when readers weighed in on what anchor store residents would like to see in the and we want that feedback again on another vacant building.

The Damon's off of Steels Corners Road at 4200 Steels Point Dr. near the has been vacant since October 2009. Mayor Sara Drew said there have been a few tenants interested in the property, but nothing official has come of the space yet.

Fifty people lost jobs when the restaurant closed.

"The restaurant, which opened in 2002, had been 'under performing' for the past two years, according to Denise Reinert-McKeown, of G&R Management Services, the company that runs the Columbus-based Damon's International," according to an 2009 Akron Beacon Journal story

What would you like to see at the former Damon's? Tell everyone in the comments! (Who knows, maybe those businesses are watching ... )

fwiw, it's been stated that trader joe's and mustard seed aren't interested in the area (see the first link). similarly, i think dave and busters is out of the question; it's not big enough and i'm guessing someone would want to re-use the existing building. personally, i'd love to see an italian or japanese restaurant in the area. carraba's would be great. the closest one was in fairlawn but burned down and is now a fleming's, i think. macaroni grill is in fairlawn too, so i think carraba's would have a fair shot at this location; not much direct competition.

I agree with you on this Kevin. I love the one in Coventry: www.clevelandheights.patch.com/listings/bds-mongolian-grill-6.com

All of teh above sound great. Stow needs some more highlights! A mocaroni Grill would be awesome for a Carrabbas. It does seem like a good location for a crackle barrel.

Ruby Tuesdays they have great food but I would also like a good Sushi or Japanese food place.
joe ponikarovsky July 31, 2012 at 04:50 PM
second ruby tuesday's. there's actually not a restaurant in the stow area with a really great, fresh, salad bar. you have to drive to streetsboro for RT's. red robin would be fantastic too.
Kevin Galioto July 31, 2012 at 05:24 PM
Red Robin would be great too... I also like that idea...

Knock it down.

I would Love to see a locally owned restaurant like Melt come to Stow. Or a new Michael Simon restaurant, even though I know B Spot is coming to the falls.
Suzanne Favazzo July 31, 2012 at 06:41 PM
I would love a Paninis

How about Quaker Steak and Lube?
Ed Fisher July 31, 2012 at 07:50 PM
I second the Quaker Steak & Lube.
Mary Christine Mohr July 31, 2012 at 07:52 PM
I agree with Cracker Barrel! They bring a lot of people in all the time so it would be great for our area. You can encourage them by writing to them. I have done that and will do it again. I am not sure there is enough room out there but there are other spaces in that area I think. Macaroni Grill would be great too. Just do something.

Cheesecake Factory!
Amanda Doll August 02, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Me too Greg! Something locally owned would be wonderful. I'm tired of the chains, we avoid them already and try to visit the locals spots as it is. Maybe one of the other chefs from in Cleveland could venture this way, there are a lot of great ones up there!! Or something along the lines of The Rail in Fairlawn - locally owned and they do a lot of local sourcing, excellent food. I think the owner from there also has a couple of other places in the Wooster area or somewhere down that way.

BD Mongolian is a great idea! I would love one closer!!!
Larry Kinnan August 03, 2012 at 12:44 PM
How about a family oriented business like Chik-fil-A. Stow does not need any more bars.
I.M. Wright August 03, 2012 at 12:47 PM
I'm with you on Melt! I've actually written to the owners strongly suggesting Stow and the riverfront of Cuyahoga Falls!
I.M. Wright August 03, 2012 at 12:51 PM
There's a Chik-Fil-A in Macedonia and Chapel Hill. They aren't going to put one in Stow. And just because a restaurant serves alcohol doesn't mean it's a "bar." For someone who is a businessperson (allegedly) you should know this basic stuff.
Larry Kinnan August 03, 2012 at 01:32 PM
For someone who can't use their real name I can't value your opinion. There are clearly too many establishments with bars in Stow given its population. There are many families that would like a choice here in Stow that don't include alchohol. I have been very open about my background including my experience in business. How about you?
Carla Bee August 03, 2012 at 06:19 PM
We need a Trader Joe's closer to us!! I'm actually surprised it's taken so long to fill that building, with the great highway access and visibility it has!
Ed Fisher August 03, 2012 at 08:08 PM
OK.......why has no one said Hooters ?
jiim may August 05, 2012 at 03:34 AM
i dont know anyone that needs a cheap thrill that bad!!!!
Andrew Dee August 28, 2012 at 03:21 PM
I would like to see Piada expand up here, right now all their locations are in Columbus. They are an Italian-style pasta version of Chipotle - and they are Delicious! http://www.mypiada.com/ But I would settle for a BD's Mongo BBQ or Dave & Busters. Both would be pretty attractive to the local college crowds. The latter would require much more space than the Damon's location though I expect.
