Arson Reported on Mac Drive

Police ask public for help finding suspect

Stow Police are looking for an arson suspect after a holiday fire on Mac Drive.

An apartment resident in the 1400 block of Mac Drive called police at 11:20 p.m. on July 4 to report what she thought was a break-in, according to a press release from Stow Police.

The woman called police after returning home to see her front window broken, but by the time officers arrived the house had started filling with smoke.

An officer entered the apartment to try and extinguish the fire, which was confined to a basket of clothes. Stow firefighters also responded and doused the flames.

According to police, the fire started after someone shot a flare through the window with a flare gun.

The resident was sheltered in a nearby hotel due to heavy smoke damage to the apartment. No injuries were reported, and the small blaze was contained to one apartment.

The Stow Police Department Detective Bureau (330-689-5731) and CrimeStoppers (330-434-2677) are asking for help in identifying the person responsible for this crime.   CrimeStoppers is a program that allows citizens to anonymously report crimes.  

If the tip results in an arrest, the tipster is eligible for a monetary reward of up to $2,000.
