I wish the state had been smart enough to do this sooner. Other states have gotten the jump on us which will probably lower the economic benefits realized. Having said that, although I am not much of a gambler, I enjoy an occasional casino visit when I get a chance. So I will probably drop in once or twice a year.

Truly, I hope this casino is a success. The money that has been promised to be funneled back int our schools will help out immensely. Notice i said promised! I hope this is not another unfulfilled promise or a case where our State just reduces their dollars to our schools by the amount the casino generates. I am not a gambler, but any business in our area that generates jobs and revenues I am behind.

I think this venture will be a short term economic boost to the area and a long term resource drain. Sure there will be an uptick in tourism dollars to Cleveland, but NE Ohio as a whole will see a marked increase in gambling addictions - along with the myriad social problems which accompany them. I seriously doubt the schools will see a penny more, regardless of the success of the casinos, but you can bet our public healthcare system will feel the increased strain. I think it was a poor decision on the part of the taxpayers to approve casino gambling in this state.

And if the state would've hopped on this sooner (and put their personal beliefs to the side), they could've also written the rules, too. And not the casino developers.

Typically when legalized gambling comes to any region, there is a drop in contributions to local charities and an increase in suicides.

I'm not a gambler so this won't affect my life directly.
How it will affect my life indirectly I do not know.

If not for a school board meeting tonight, I would have been one of those crazy people lining up at 5 p.m. for the opening at 9:30. I wanted to check it out! Plus, I like to play craps. haha I'll just have to wait...

I think it's a sad state of affairs when we bring the destructive elements that have caused issues in so many other areas that have embraced casino gambling into the Cleveland area! And to see the comment someone made about it helping the schools made me want to vomit! We were told the same lies when the state (not me) voted for the lottery! Yet almost every year we are force fed tax levies to try to save the schools! After everyone takes their cut from gambling there is NEVER anything left for schools. Keep wishing!

Oh will you "gambling is evil and will destroy mankind" loons knock it off already. You sound more and more freaking ridiculous each and every time. Especially when you go rambling on and not know what you're talking about.
You don't like casinos? GREAT -- DON'T FREAKING GO! But get off your freaking soapboxes about how horrible they are and the world will simply collapse on itself because people are gambling. Majority of the people who go play responsibly. This is no different than the Ohio Lottery. And speaking of the lottery, there is money that does go to schools. But, when you have over 600 school districts in Ohio getting a piece of that pie, it's a rather small piece. But THE reason that schools keep asking for levies is NOT because of the lottery. It's because (mostly Republicans) have ignored a court ruling that said the way Ohio funds public education is unconstitutional. Spend more time educating yourself and less time spewing your unfounded and baseless dramatics.
