Special Olympic Torch Runners Raising Money, Awareness

The “Flame of Hope” will return to Stow this year as members of the city’s safety forces take part in the Ohio Special Olympics annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker and Stow Mayor Sara Drew will lead a team of about a dozen or more officers, their spouses and department employees on June 26.

The torch run fundraiser supports the Special Olympics, set for June 28-30 in Columbus where more than 23,000 athletes will get the chance to compete.

The torch will be passed from Hudson to Stow police officers on S.R. 91 at Norton Road. The Stow team of runners will head south on S.R. 91 through Stow to Adell Durbin where they will pass the torch on to Munroe Falls, Cuyahoga Falls and Tallmadge runners.

Those interested in donating to the Ohio Special Olympics via the Stow torch running team can drop off donations at the Stow Police Department, or donations can be mailed to the Stow Police Department, Attn:  Special Olympics Torch Run, 3800 Darrow Road, Stow, OH  44224.
