Summa Cardiovascular Screening Bus Stopping in Stow

Medical professionals will conduct multiple screenings to check for signs of early stages of cardiovascular disease.

Summa Health System is hitting the road to help residents in the area be proactive about their health. 

The test only takes about an hour and is recommended for people who are 45 or older. 

A cardiovascular health screening bus will be making a stop in Stow on May 21. Summa has partnered with HealthFair, the only national mobile testing service accredited by The Joint Commission, to charter a bus with cardiovascular testing abilities to help give local men and women insight into their overall health and pave the way for a conversation about wellness.

“The bus will travel from community to community with medical professionals on-board who can conduct multiple screenings to check for signs of early stages of cardiovascular disease,” said Joseph McShannic, M.D., chief of Vascular Surgery at Summa Health System in a prepared statement. “Results will be read by a physician and communicated back to patients so they can address any health concerns proactively.”

The screenings cost $179, which is reimbursable by some insurances and covers six heart disease, stroke and aneurysm prevention screenings valued at $2,300.

These tests include:

  • an echocardiogram
  • 12-lead EKG
  • a hardening of the arteries test (ASI)
  • a carotid artery (stroke) ultrasound
  • a peripheral arterial disease test (PAD)
  • an abdominal aortic aneurysm ultrasound

Patients can also choose to add a $99 “Know Your Number Risk Assessment” which includes a complete lifestyle risk assessment to help predict a patient’s five-year risk for stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and lung cancer in addition to a lipid panel covering cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose, it states in a press release.

Summa said about 40 percent of the patients screened show some kind of health abnormality.
