Silver Lake Park topic of April 9 Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society meeting

Silver Lake Park – one of Summit County’s oldest and best-loved amusement parks – will be the topic of the Weds., April 9 meeting of the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society at 7 p.m. at the Cuyahoga Falls Library, 2015 Third St.

Speaker for the event will be Stow author Mary McClure, who has written a pictorial history of the park, Silver Lake Park, which is part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.

Silver Lake, which operated from the 1870s-1917, had dozens of attractions ranging from one of the largest dance halls in the area, a miniature railway, roller coaster and other mechanical rides, live animal exhibits, including the first public aquarium in Ohio, an early aviation field, water toboggans, steamships and much more.

The meeting, which will be held in the Sutliff meeting room in the library’s lower level, is free and open to the public.
